  • Call for 2015 CRISSP Poster Day Judges, August 6

    We are currently recruiting up to 14 postdoctoral fellows and physician fellows to judge scientific posters at the CHOP Research Institute Summer Scholars Program (CRISSP) poster session on Thursday, August 6 from 11:30am-1:00pm in the Abramson Lobby. CRISSP is a highly competitive summer internship program for undergraduate students interested in careers in biomedical research. Twenty-five students have been selected to participate this summer from a pool of almost 500 applicants.

    As part of their internship experience, all CRISSP students must complete an independent research project presented during the August 6 poster session. Judges will be asked to visit several assigned posters during the judging period and identify the best research project. Judging criteria will be provided to guide the selection process. A judges meeting will be held at 1:00pm in ARC 123ABC to discuss the winners.

    Students will be split into 3 judging tracks: Basic, Translational, and Behavioral/Clinical. We are still looking for 1 basic research judge, 1 translational research judges, and 6 behavioral and/or clinical research judges. Judges are also invited to attend the awards ceremony from 4:00pm-6:00pm, Thursday, August 6 in Abramson 123ABC.

    Office of Postdoctoral Affairs Programming Survey – Complete by July 10

    Complete the Office of Postdoc Affairs Programming Survey by July 10 – Win an iPod Nano!

    The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs would like your input on upcoming programming for the 2015-2016 academic year. Please let us know what specific areas of interest you would like to see represented in our Postdoc Seminar Series.

    This seminar series is an hour-long session, offered on a bi-monthly basis during the academic year to CHOP research trainees. CHOP research trainees include postdoctoral fellows, physician fellows and CHOP-based graduate students.

    Research Trainee Orientation Session – July 9

    The Offices of Responsible Research Training and Postdoctoral Affairs in conjunction with the Department of Pediatrics will be offering an orientation session for training grant, postdoctoral, or physician fellows who will be moving into a "research trainee" status and receiving stipends for Fiscal Year 2016, beginning on July 1, 2015.

    Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC): Tools for Managing Finances and Loans

    The Association of American Medical Colleges offers tools and resources to assist graduate students and postdocs with managing finances and loans. While some of the content is messaged to medical students, the information applies to all student loan borrowers, including graduate students and postdocs. Resources include a loan organizer and calculator and fact sheets on loan repayment.

    Postdoctoral Research Associate Position at UPenn

    Principal Investigator: Matthew J. Lazzara, PhD
    Assistant Professor, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Bioengineering
    University of Pennsylvania

    The Lazzara Lab seeks applications to fill one open postdoctoral research associate position on a new project to study cell signaling regulatory responses to targeted therapeutics in brain cancer. The project will integrate experimental and computational approaches. Prior experience with basic cell and molecular biology techniques is required. Prior computational modeling experience is helpful, but not required. Competitive salary is available and will be determined based on experience.     Introduction to Clinical and Translational Research Course Registration Open

    Registration for the Introduction to Clinical and Translational Research, offered by ITMAT, for the 2015-16 academic year is now open. The course is primarily geared towards junior faculty, fellows and postdocs who have an interest in learning about the practical aspects involved in undertaking clinical research. Clinical research staff members are also eligible to enroll if their application is supported by their supervisor.

    Lectures are organized into modules covering four main content areas:
    Module I: Introduction & Research Methods
    Module II: Data Management & Biostatistics
    Module III: Study Conduct
    Module IV: Scientific Conduct

    Science Poster Show – Fumo Family Library
    When: July 29, 2015
    Where: Fumo Family Branch (Broad and Ritner Streets, South Philadelphia)
    Time: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

    Enjoy doing hands on science demonstrations?

    If so, consider volunteering 2 hours of your time at the Fumo Family Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia. Our audience will be 8-13 year olds, and their parents, with a strong interest in all things science. This is a great opportunity to reuse an old poster while improving your ability to present your research to a lay audience. This is also an ideal opportunity to engage with the greater Philadelphia community.
