  • Call for 2016 CRISSP Poster Day Judges, August 11

    We are currently recruiting up to 14 postdoctoral fellows and physician fellows to judge scientific posters at the CHOP Research Institute Summer Scholars Program (CRISSP) poster session on Thursday, August 11 from 11:30am-1:00pm in the Abramson Lobby. CRISSP is a highly competitive summer internship program for undergraduate students interested in careers in biomedical research. Twenty-five students have been selected to participate this summer from a pool of almost 500 applicants.

    As part of their internship experience, all CRISSP students must complete an independent research project presented during the August 11 poster session. Judges will be asked to visit several assigned posters during the judging period and identify the best research project. Judging criteria will be provided to guide the selection process. A judges meeting will be held at 1:00pm in ARC 123AB to discuss the winners.

    Students will be split into 3 judging tracks: Basic, Translational, and Behavioral/Clinical. We are still looking for 1 basic research judge, 1 translational research judge, and 6 behavioral and/or clinical research judges. Judges are also invited to attend the awards ceremony from 4:00pm-5:30pm, Thursday, August 11 in Abramson 123ABC.

    Please Complete by Friday, July 15 - UPenn Biomedical Postdoctoral Program (BPP) Attendance Reporting Survey

    CHOP Leadership has negotiated a partnership with the UPenn BPP that allows all CHOP postdoctoral fellows and physician fellows supported by training grants (T32/F32) to access BPP events and UPenn Career Services programming.

    Active attendance at BPP events and utilization of related services will ensure that CHOP can maintain this partnership and provide free enrollment each year. As a participant in the BPP, you are required to self-report attendance at their events at the end of the programming year (June 2016). MCHOP Leadership has negotiated a partnership with the UPenn BPP that allows all CHOP postdoctoral fellows and physician fellows supported by training grants (T32/F32) to access BPP events and UPenn Career Services programming.

    To maintain good standing as a CHOP-sponsored member of the UPenn BPP, we request that participants attend at least five BPP events and one UPenn Career Services development/counseling session within each year of enrollment.

    Jefferson Postdoctoral Position in Cancer Biology Available Immediately

    Thomas Jefferson University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the lab of Drs. Jordan Winter and Jonathan Brody. The project is funded and aims to pancreatic cancer metabolism, with a translational focus. We are looking for a motivated and hardworking researcher, an ability to work independently, and a strong commitment to scientific research at the highest level. Candidates should have rich experience in cancer biology. Expertise in mouse models and pharmacology is beneficial. The project is best suited for a candidate interested in a multi-year experience. The Kimmel Cancer Center at TJU is an NCI designated cancer center with state-of-the-art resources and core facilities. There will be extensive exposure to clinicians.

    Research Trainee Orientation Session – July 12

    The Offices of Responsible Research Training and Postdoctoral Affairs in conjunction with the Department of Pediatrics will be offering an orientation session for training grant, postdoctoral, or physician fellows who will be moving into a "research trainee" status and receiving stipends for Fiscal Year 2016, beginning on July 1, 2015.

    Need Help Identifying a Secondary Mentor for Your Annual Review?

    On Thursday, June 16, David Taylor, PhD, Assistant Director in the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, presented at the CHOP Postdoc Seminar Series. Dr. Taylor presented on postdoctoral mentorship plans, specifically ways postdocs can identify secondary mentors.

    English Language Programs at Penn

    Penn offers English Language Programs to members of the Penn and Philadelphia communities, which aim to successfully develop competence and fluency in English.

    They focus primarily on speaking and listening skills and cover a wide range of language proficiency, from beginner through advanced. Classes are held 6:00-7:40pm, one night per week, for seven weeks, and the cost is $400 - one exception is the TOEFL skills course, which meets twice weekly and is $800.     The UPenn Biomedical Postdoctoral Program (BPP) Social Committee hosts a monthly happy hour event at Harvest Bar and Grill (200 South 40th Street) in West Philly. All CHOP and UPenn postdocs are welcome to join. Feel free to bring co-workers, friends and significant others, as long as they are 21+.

    Enjoy drink specials from 5:30 PM-7:30 PM. When you arrive, tell the hostess you are with the postdoc happy hour and get a wristband to get the specials.
